WELCOME TO WHITE PLAINS RUGBY

The White Plains Rugby Football Club (WPRFC) invites you to the world of rugby football (America’s fastest growing sport) played at its highest level in New England, the New York Metropolitan Area, and nationally. WPRFC is a 501c3 amateur athletic organization focused on being proactive in the community both on and off the athletic field.

Competitive Rugby

Our premier side (USA Rugby Division I) is highly competitive and successful in the Empire Rugby Union play, qualifying for the national playoffs annually for 6 of the past 8 years, and in 2006 and 2007 winning the Greater Metropolitan New York Rugby Division I Championship. White Plains also fields a USA Rugby Division III developmental side that feeds the Division I side and offers players of all levels (younger players, developing players and Old Boys) an opportunity to play competitive rugby as they start their rugby careers or after their Division I days have passed. White Plains also fields one of the most competitive Old Boys sides in the nation, and is eager to start a women’s rugby program.

Premier Coaching

WPRFC Boasts one of the finest coaching staffs in USA Rugby.

Head Coach CJ Cortalano has over 19 years of playing and coaching experience in both Rugby Union and Rugby League. He started playing rugby at 17 years old for White Plains. In College he was a 2x college all-star and North East NRU select player.  In Men's Club Rugby he is a 4x Met Union Championship, played in 3 Sweet 16 National Playoffs, playing for White Plains, Old Blue, New York Rugby Club and Bayonne.   He has played in 3 Rugby League National Championship Finals, winning 2x and qualifying for the national playoffs 10 seasons while  playing for the New York Knights, Brooklyn Kings and the White Plains Wombats.  CJ has over 15 USA Rugby League National Team Caps and represented the USA in the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.  In his first season as Head Coach for The White Plains War Pigs, he coached the club to a 5-3 record.

Assistant Coach Michael Laczkowski began his Rugby playing career with the Buffalo Old Boys at 15. While in College he continued with Men’s Club Rugby with the Syracuse Chargers, Rochester Aardvarks, and Niagara Wasps(ORU) before following his older brother Bill to WPRFC in 1995.

A three time College All American and USA Rugby U25 team member has represented several local and territorial union sides. 16 caps with the USA Classic Eagles.

Coached the Greenwich OGRCC U14 team to the Northeast middle school championship 2016 and the national runner up in 2017.

Has returned to WPRFC because of his love for the club, and he Bleeds Blue!

State-of-the-Art Facilities

WPRFC’s home field is one the finest venues in northeast rugby. Centrally located in White Plains, Loucks Field is expertly maintained by the professional staff of the White Plains Central School District. Likewise, our practice facility at Saxon Woods Park provides a full-sized lighted field that allows full practices early in the spring and into the fall as the days shorten.

WPRFC Beyond the Pitch

While our primary mission as an organization since 1972 has been to promote the growth and development of the game of rugby football, to develop youth rugby and support local high school and college rugby programs, high-level competition is not all that this club is about. A first class rugby club is more than a sporting organization.  It is more than a family.  It is a family that reaches out and becomes an integral part of its local community.  That is what you sign on for when you become a member of the White Plains Rugby Football Club. WPRFC has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charitable causes and gives back to the community through blood drives, ALS events, Wildlife-in-Crisis volunteer work and many other avenues. We are a large and competitive group of smart and talented people.  With our partners and families we try to be a force for good, as well as good rugby.
